Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about wallets, seed phrases, networks, transfers, gas, DApps, approvals, EVM, Layer 2, Ethereum, PoS and validators.
What is a digital wallet?
A wallet manages keys and helps users interact with blockchains; the asset record itself lives on-chain.
Why must seed phrases and private keys stay secret?
They can directly control wallet access. If exposed, another party may move assets or authorize actions.
Can I send a seed phrase to official staff?
No. imtoken will never ask for a seed phrase, private key or verification code.
Why verify the network when receiving?
Assets live on specific chains. Similar address formats do not make networks interchangeable.
What should I check before sending?
At minimum, verify the address, network, amount and gas, and confirm the recipient supports that network.
What is gas?
Gas is the resource cost of on-chain execution and varies with congestion and operation complexity.
What is a transaction hash used for?
It lets you check transaction status, block height and confirmations on the appropriate explorer.
Can a transaction be reversed?
On-chain transactions generally cannot be unilaterally reversed by a wallet, so pre-send checks matter.
Does connecting to a DApp move assets?
Connection alone usually establishes account communication, but later signatures, transactions or approvals may affect assets.
Are message signatures and transaction signatures the same?
No. Message signatures may prove identity or consent, while transaction signatures can authorize executable on-chain actions.
What is a token approval?
It grants a specified contract permission to spend tokens within an allowance. Review the spender, scope and purpose.
What should I do with unused approvals?
Review permissions with a trusted on-chain interface and consider revoking approvals you no longer need.
Why do EVM addresses look the same across networks?
EVM networks often use the same address format, but balances, gas, chain IDs and contract state remain separate.
How does Layer 2 relate to mainnet?
Layer 2 systems handle part of execution or scaling outside the base layer and use specific mechanisms to settle or communicate with it.
Does a missing NFT image mean the asset is gone?
Not necessarily. Verify the contract, token ID and on-chain ownership; media may rely on separate metadata services.
Does Ethereum staking guarantee returns?
No. Rewards can change, exits may involve waiting, and validators can face network penalties.
What does a PoS validator do?
A validator follows consensus rules to propose or attest to blocks and must maintain correct participation.
What should I do with a suspected phishing page?
Stop signing or approving, verify the domain and request, and never share secret credentials.
